Join Our Team: Maintenance Operative Vacancy at Nynehead Court
We are currently inviting applications for a full-time Maintenance Operative to join the team at Nynehead Court, one of Somerset’s most highly regarded independent care homes. Set in 14 acres of gardens and parkland, just outside Wellington, Nynehead Court provides residential care for residents and also supports independent living properties at The Mews.
This is an ideal opportunity for a practical and capable individual who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in keeping a home running smoothly. The right candidate will be someone who can work with confidence and care across a wide range of maintenance duties while helping to maintain a safe, tidy and pleasant environment for our residents and staff.
As Maintenance Operative, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep of the home and grounds. You will work closely with the management team to respond to maintenance requests, carry out planned works and keep clear records of tasks and checks completed. You will also be a friendly and familiar presence to our residents, and you’ll understand the importance of working with sensitivity and professionalism in a residential care setting.
Your role will include:
- Carrying out routine maintenance and repairs inside the main house, within the grounds, and in the Mews bungalows
- Responding promptly to requests from managers and staff
- Performing general tasks including minor plumbing, electrical repairs, decorating, and basic carpentry
- Helping with furniture moves and preparation of rooms
- Monitoring and overseeing contractors and external suppliers when needed
- Maintaining logs and keeping track of maintenance supplies and stock
- Ensuring the safety and presentation of both indoor and outdoor areas
- Supporting the home’s health and safety requirements, including compliance checks
This is a practical and varied role that would suit someone with a background in property maintenance, caretaking, or facilities. You’ll need to be adaptable, positive and well organised, with the confidence to work independently and the ability to follow processes and timelines carefully. You should have previous experience in a similar role and be confident in dealing with minor plumbing and electrical issues. Relevant qualifications are welcome. You will be someone who takes pride in doing a job well and who understands how your work supports the wider care and wellbeing of residents. A full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
This is a full-time post of 40 hours per week. Job share may be considered for the right applicants. Pay will be based on experience and discussed at interview.
