Celebrating Jo Fenn and introducing Kim Horton – A New Chapter at Nynehead Court
After an outstanding career spanning four decades in the care profession, we mark a heartfelt moment in the Nynehead Court story as Jo Fenn, our much-admired Registered Manager, retires. (pictured above (Right) with Alyson Martin, Director (Left)).
Jo’s journey in care began at just 14, when she spent weekends delivering teas and washing up. It was the start of a path defined by dedication, compassion, and a deep understanding of what good care truly means. Over the years, she worked in a home for the blind as a cook and gradually progressed through every role imaginable, gaining experience, respect and a remarkable insight into the fabric of care.
With 15 years in management and an incredible 40 years in the care profession, Jo joined us here at Nynehead Court in 2019, after three decades working in a large corporate care setting. Her arrival brought with it not only experience but also a confidence and leadership style that quickly became invaluable. Just a year into her time with us, Jo guided the home through a CQC inspection in March 2020, resulting in a solid “Good” rating, a well-earned validation of her vision and standards. But it was what came immediately after that truly defined her leadership: the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic.
During a time of great uncertainty, Jo’s focus never wavered. With the support of the whole Nynehead team, she led the home through those challenging months without the loss of a single resident to the virus and crucially, without relying on agency staff. It was a moment that demonstrated the strength of our team and the power of continuity, compassion, and trust in our community.
“Being a standalone, independent care home meant we really had to look out for each other,” Jo reflected. “But what I saw was my team pulling together in ways I’ll never forget. That time really showed what Nynehead is made of.”
Jo’s focus has always been on person-centred, truly individualised care. With very low staff turnover, her belief was that long-standing relationships between staff and residents create an environment where end-of-life care is naturally respectful, familiar, and gentle. She built excellent relationships with district nurses and support agencies, ensuring that we could always offer the very best support to every resident.
Looking back, Jo says she wouldn’t change a thing. “Having done every job in a care team has made me the manager I became. I’ve worked with some incredible people. Now, I’m keeping future plans open, but I’m certainly looking forward to spending more time with the family.”
Jo leaves with our deepest thanks, and our very best wishes for everything that comes next. Her legacy lives on through the team, and through the high standards and culture of care she helped to nurture.
We are also incredibly proud to announce that Kim Horton has now taken up the position of Manager at Nynehead Court. Kim has already been key member of our team, demonstrating warmth, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to both our residents and our values.

Her promotion is a powerful example of our belief in developing and recognising talent from within. She steps into the role with an exceptional understanding of what makes Nynehead Court so special; Continuity of care, respect for each individual, and a love for the people who live and work here.
Kim is already hard at work, supported by a strong and experienced leadership team, and she brings a fresh energy and confidence to this vital role. We’re excited for the future under her leadership, and we know that Jo’s legacy of care, dedication and kindness continues in very capable hands.
