Celebrating the Retirement of Deb Sparks: A Cherished Member of the Nynehead Court Family
After nearly 20 years of dedicated service, we bid a fond farewell to Deb Sparks, our much-loved Deputy Manager, as she embarks on a well-deserved retirement.
For Deb, Nynehead Court has never been just a job, it has been a second home, filled with friendships, cherished memories, and the privilege of caring for so many residents over the years. As she steps into this next chapter, we take a moment to celebrate her remarkable journey and the lasting impact she has made on our home, our residents, and our team.
Deb joined Nynehead Court in September 2004, initially working night shifts while her children were young. As she developed her skills and confidence, she moved into daytime shifts and, with encouragement and support, worked her way up through the ranks. She completed her NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care, a significant achievement that led to her promotion to Deputy Manager in March 2018.
Her career path is a shining example of how Nynehead Court encourages professional growth. Deb’s story reflects our ethos: care is not just a profession, it’s a calling, and one that we nurture, support, and develop in every member of our team.
Throughout her two decades at Nynehead Court, Deb has found joy and fulfilment in building relationships with residents and their families. As she puts it:
“I have met some amazing residents and their families and have considered it a pleasure and privilege to get to know and become friends with so many people and share their lives.”
No two days at Nynehead Court are ever the same, and Deb has always embraced the excitement and variety that comes with life here. She fondly recalls residents’ holidays to St Ives, Yorkshire, and Poole, where she shared special moments and laughter with those in her care.
She has also been an integral part of our community events, including fetes, Open Gardens for the NGS, and our much-loved Easter and Halloween trails. Her enthusiasm and commitment to making every day meaningful for residents have left an indelible mark on our home.
As a senior member of the team, Deb played a crucial role in navigating the challenges of the Covid pandemic. Despite the immense pressures of the time, she and her colleagues ensured that Nynehead Court remained a lively, vibrant, and safe place.
“Thankfully, we did not lose any residents to Covid, and staff made sure that despite the restrictions, the home remained a vibrant and lively place. We were able to make use of the beautiful gardens to ensure that everyone was able to get outside.”
This resilience, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our residents’ wellbeing is exactly what makes Nynehead Court such a special place; A place where residents are not just cared for but truly cherished.
Sadly, in September 2023, Deb’s husband passed away. Now, she has decided to retire to spend more time with her young grandchildren.
While we will miss her greatly, we are comforted by the fact that she won’t be a stranger because her mother is a resident at Nynehead Court, so she will continue to visit weekly.
“Nynehead Court is much more than a care home, and for me, it has become like a second home. I always think of everyone as my ‘work family’ and know my life has been all the better for being part of such a wonderful group of people.”
We know that, just as Deb has been a part of our family, we will always be a part of hers.
As we celebrate Deb’s incredible career, we want to say thank you, for your dedication, kindness, leadership, and for the care you have given to so many over the years. You have made a difference in more lives than you know, and we are truly grateful for the love, patience, and compassion you have shared with residents and staff alike.
We wish you happiness, relaxation, and countless joyful moments with your family in this next chapter. And of course, we look forward to seeing you back at Nynehead Court whenever you visit!
